We are always looking to take on new volunteers and have a variety of opportunities within our team. Can you spare some time to help us? Can you help with any of the following?
Home Checkers: We need volunteer Home Checkers to visit the homes of potential adopters to ensure their suitability for a new cat. You will visit the homes of potential adopters and discus the implications of a cat in their home, completing reports and carrying out follow-up visits after adoption.
Home Checkers must have knowledge of caring for cats and have a basic understanding of their needs and behaviours. Home Checkers must be over 18 years old and be able to provide their own transport. No previous experience is necessary, as full training will be provided.
Home visits usually last 1-2 hours and are always scheduled depending on the availability of our Home Checker volunteers. For this reason, home checking is a great role for anyone who can only give a limited time commitment to the Cat Hub, but we would prefer volunteers to be prepared to commit to at least one morning, afternoon or evening per week on an on-going basis.
Cat Fostering: We are looking for volunteers who can provide care and suitable housing in a safe environment for cats and kittens, in accordance with RSPCA policies and guidelines. Fostered animals may include pregnant cats who give birth while in foster care and very young kittens.
Fosterers are expected to feed, water and groom cats as appropriate, provide suitable bedding (supplied if required), keep accurate records of expenditure, via receipts and completed expense forms, and talk to members of public about cats in their care with the hope of rehoming them.
Previous experience of fostering is beneficial and experience of caring for cats is essential. You will need a separate room to keep the cats in and your family must be fully supportive. If you have existing animals they must be spayed/neutered unless there are medical reasons why they can’t be.
Training will be provided. Expenses are available.
If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact our coordinator on 07842 434377 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Before you join us as a volunteer, you will be asked to complete a volunteer application form, attend an informal interview and provide referees for us to contact (depending upon the role you are applying for). When you start as a volunteer you will be provided with an induction programme and any training you may need to carry out the role.
